Pete Watson (accordion) and Dan Sheppard (bass). Expect astounding violin-thrashing from Baz Stanescu himself, a unique mixture of gypsy swing, conservatoire technique and Romanian attitude, assured and tasteful guitar from Mr Hepbir, sneaky and subversive accordion from Watson, solid bass from Brighton groove-merchant Sheppard. Burlesque with Miss Polly Rae and Radio Daze
Le Quecumbar is the ideal venue for this unusual and charming musical soiree.
Polly Rae, famed Burlesque dancer. will be doing a special performance of this rare and historic artform. Polly will swing her thing to the rhythms of the wild Parisian 30s and reminds us of an era of sparkling enthusiastic song and dance and titilation.
The precursor to strip and lapdancing, the authentic practitioners of the Americo-French Burlesque style have remained undiscovered for many decades and this is a unique opportunity to see this erotically-charged, living treasure of dance, theatre and music. Polly Rae is accompanied with a traditional backing in the form of two guitars and double bass playing the tunes of the night. The music will be mainly drawn from authentic songs of the periods encompassing the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
Radio Daze - Messrs. David Ahmed, Faebhean Kwest and Ritchie Cesare - are well-versed in this style, being regular patrons and musicians of both Le Quecumbar and similarly themed halls.
